Painwaves - Binaural Beats for Neural Pain
In 2018, I survived a stroke, caused by a chiropractic adjustment. While I am mostly recovered, I’m left with diminished sensation in one side, and some residual neural pain.
Anyone who has experienced neural pain knows it can be hard to describe. It isn’t always an ache or a sting. Sometimes it feels like burning pins and needles, other times like sudden electric shocks. It can be hard to locate and even harder to treat. Unlike the “warning signals” of tissue damage, neuropathic pain is a malfunction of the nervous system itself. That’s why it feels so different, lingers so long, and often resists conventional treatment.
Pain medications offer little relief and massage provides only temporary respite. Personally, what truly helped me most was sound….specifically, binaural beats.
Binaural beats occur when two slightly different tones are played, one in each ear. Your brain processes the difference between them as a subtle rhythm that you don’t exactly hear but perceive. When that difference falls in the theta range (around 4–7 Hz), the brain naturally begins to synchronise with it. Theta brainwaves are linked to deep relaxation, meditation, and reduced perception of pain. Listening to theta binaural beats can quiet racing thoughts, ease tension, and create the mental calm needed for the body to rest and recover.
What I noticed, however, was that many binaural tracks weren’t optimised for pain. Some even distracted from their own purpose by adding unnecessary elements. So, after careful study and experimentation, I’ve developed my own series of tracks: The Painwave Series. The first release is designed and optimised specifically for managing neural pain. More tracks with other therapeutic goals are on the way.
Research suggests that about 45 minutes of theta exposure brings the best results for pain relief, and a tempo of 55 BPM is ideal for relaxation. For maximum effect, I recommend listening with headphones.
These tracks will be released in the near future, and I hope they bring others the same comfort and healing they have brought me.
